The Basics of Dionysophy

Bridging the Gap

After a year of working on Dionysophy, I noticed that the gap between Dionysophy and my previous project, Dream Sanctuary, was becoming too wide. In truth, Dionysophy is pretty mysterious, even for me. This means that the typical online visitor is left with a lot of guessing about what Dionysophy actually is.

To respond to this problem, here are six short videos that will help you find out whether Dionysophy is for you or not.

Enjoy,

Axel

After making this video, I remembered that the anatomical part of the body I am pointing to is not just the vagus nerve, but is called the thymus.

Further Recommendations

There is a seventh topic that is part of the fundamentals of Dionysophy, and it's the mind-body connection. I recommend looking at the following influential books:

Maté, Gabor. When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress
Miller, Alice. The Body Never Lies: The Lingering Effects of Hurtful Parenting
Van der Kolk, Bessel. The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

A good overview of the topic can be found in this talk by Gabor Maté:

When the Body Says No:Mind/body Unity and the Stress-Disease Connection W/ Dr. Gabor Maté

As far as practice goes, I have found the modality Somatic Experiencing very useful. Created by Peter Levine, going to a Somatic Experiencing therapist was able to help me start reconnecting to my body.

What's next?

Hopefully, the basics clarified the questions you might have about Dionysophy and whether this path of self-knowledge is for you or not.

If that's up your alley, join us in the Community. The material I present there is more personal, more immediate, and, of course, less polished. It's about exploring new territory in a way that is livable for the human ego. Engaging the unconscious is very demanding and there are no shortcuts to it.

Otherwise, Dionysophy remains open to the public. You'll find long-form content on Living Symbols, thought-provoking essays on Substack, and a social media presence on X.
